{"id":7539,"date":"2020-09-28T11:53:27","date_gmt":"2020-09-28T15:53:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/classics\/?page_id=7539"},"modified":"2025-09-16T16:19:11","modified_gmt":"2025-09-16T20:19:11","slug":"latin-major","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/classics\/academics\/undergraduate-programs\/majors\/latin-major\/","title":{"rendered":"Latin Language &#038; Culture Major"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In addition to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/academics\/cas\/programs\/degree-overview\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">general requirements<\/a> that all College of Arts and Science students must require, students with a major in Latin must also complete the following requirements.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A concentration in Latin requires a<strong> minimum of nine courses<\/strong>, all with a grade of C or better.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>One course in Roman History or Civilization\n<ul>\n<li>CL102 World of Rome<\/li>\n<li>CL322 Roman History<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Four courses in Latin above the 100-level<\/li>\n<li>Three courses in Classical Studies on Latin Literature or Culture<\/li>\n<li>One course at the 400-level or above in Latin or CL406<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul><\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Learning Outcomes:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Demonstrate broad understanding of the history and culture of ancient Rome.<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrate sufficient understanding of the vocabulary, morphology, and syntax of Latin to read standard works of the classical period accurately.<\/li>\n<li>Acquire the skills necessary to use dictionaries, grammars, and other resources that aid the reading and understanding of Latin texts.<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrate, in their reading of Latin, an understanding of genre, style, cultural context, and the place of the text within the literary history of the ancient world.<\/li>\n<li>Communicate clearly and persuasively, both orally and in writing, ideas about Latin literary texts.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h6>Revised Fall 2023<\/h6>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In addition to the general requirements that all College of Arts and Science students must require, students with a major in Latin must also complete the following requirements.
