In addition to the general requirements<\/a> that all College of Arts and Science students must require, students with a major in Ancient Greek must also complete the following requirements.<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

A major in ancient Greek requires a minimum of nine courses<\/strong>, all with a grade of C or better.<\/p>\n

  1. One course in Greek History or Civilization\n
      \n
    • CL101 World of Greece<\/li>\n
    • CL321 Greek History<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
    • Four courses in Ancient Greek above the 100-level<\/li>\n
    • Three courses from:\n
        \n
      • CL108 Scientific Terminology from Greek and Latin Roots<\/span><\/li>\n
      • CL121 What Is a Good Life? Ancient Wisdom and Modern Insights<\/span><\/li>\n
      • CL202 Warfare in Antiquity<\/span><\/li>\n
      • CL206 Women in Antiquity<\/span><\/li>\n
      • CL207 Sexuality in Ancient Greece and Rome<\/span><\/li>\n
      • CL213 Greek and Roman Mythology<\/span><\/li>\n
      • CL216 Greek and Roman Religion<\/span><\/li>\n
      • CL224 Greek Drama in Translation<\/span><\/li>\n
      • CL237 Race and Ethnicity in Ancient Greece and Rome<\/span><\/li>\n
      • CL249 Classics in Popular Culture<\/li>\n
      • CL300 The Age of Pericles<\/li>\n
      • CL310 The Classical Tradition in Modern Literature<\/span><\/li>\n
      • CL313 The “Odyssey” and “Ulysses”<\/span><\/li>\n
      • CL325\/CI369 Greek Tragedy and Film<\/span><\/li>\n
      • CL359\/CG359 Cavafy and History<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
      • One course at the 400-level or above in Ancient Greek or CL406.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        Learning Outcomes:<\/strong><\/p>\n

          \n
        1. Demonstrate broad understanding of the history and culture of ancient Greece.<\/span><\/li>\n
        2. Demonstrate sufficient understanding of the vocabulary, morphology, and syntax of ancient Greek to read standard works of the classical period accurately.<\/span><\/li>\n
        3. Acquire the skills necessary to use dictionaries, grammars, and other resources that aid the reading and understanding of or ancient Greek texts.<\/span><\/li>\n
        4. Demonstrate, in their reading of ancient Greek, an understanding of genre, style, cultural context, and the place of the text within the literary history of the ancient world.<\/span><\/li>\n
        5. Communicate clearly and persuasively, both orally and in writing, ideas about ancient Greek literary texts.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
