Professor Curtis Runnels Honored by the American School of Classical Studies at Athens

Curtis Runnels, Professor of Archaeology, Anthropology, and Classical Studies, was honored by the American School of Classical Studies at Athens on May 6, 2021 for his outstanding contributions to the advancement of knowledge of post-antique Greece.

Professor Runnels was awarded the Gennadius Prize by the Board of Overseers for his donation of rare Greek books and documents to the Gennaudius Library. Among Runnels’ donations were Medieval Greek manuscripts, maps, books printed in Greece, travel literature, watercolors, diaries, and more.

The American School of Classical Studies at Athens (ASCSA) was founded in 1881 as an institution for research and study in Greece for graduate students and scholars. ASCSA provides academic programs, excavations, libraries and other facilities to approximately 190 colleges and universities in North America with programs in classical archaeology; classics; linguistic studies; Byzantine, Ottoman, and modern Greek studies; archaeological sciences; political science; history; and other social sciences.
