Head of Modern Greek Kelly Polychroniou and three Boston University students accompanied Emmanuel College’s “In the Footsteps of Thucydides” program in Greece over spring break. The program, created and led by Emmanuel College Professor Petros Vamvakas, traces important locations in Thucydides’ history of the war between Athens and Sparta (431 to 404 B.C.), including sites in and around Attica, the Peloponnese and islands of the Saronic Gulf such as Aigina.

The program this year also included a visit to the Greek Parliament, hosted by the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Terens Quick, to the Presidential Palace and to a personal meeting with President Prokopis Pavlopoulos. This group was only the second granted such an audience with the Greek president, and their visit was covered in the daily Greek newspaper I Kathimerini.
