At Campagna-Kerven lectures, multidisciplinary experts including scholars, artists, and public intellectuals speak on a rich variety of themes\u00a0to<span>\u00a0foster informed public debate on questions of the day\u00a0and\u00a0improve the public\u2019s knowledge of Turkish society and politics.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Today, the lecture fuels Boston University\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/ckls\/links\/\">Turkish initiatives<\/a>, from robust Turkish language instruction to study abroad programming.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Suzanne Campagna\u2019s Legacy<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The lecture series is dedicated to the memory of Suzanne Campagna\u2019s father and late husband.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/ckls\/files\/2011\/03\/CIMG1751.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/ckls\/files\/2011\/03\/CIMG1751-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"CIMG1751\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\" wp-image-193 size-thumbnail alignleft\" \/><\/a>Her father,<span>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/ckls\/home\/mehmet-nahid-kerven\/\">Mehmet Nahid Kerven<\/a>, was one of the famed \u201cYoung Turks\u201d.\u00a0 Like many of his compatriots, he studied in Paris at the Sorborne. In 1910, he married Suzanne\u2019s mother Marguerite in Paris. The following year, the couple moved to Istanbul where Suzanne was born.<\/p>\n<p>Suzanne eventually followed her parents\u2019 footsteps back to Paris. There, she met her husband <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/ckls\/home\/gerard-kampagna\/\">Gerard Campagna<\/a> a lieutenant with the U.S. liberation forces. The couple moved to the United States so that Lieutenant Campagna could pursue a PhD in history from Boston University. After receiving his doctorate in 1952, Gerard worked in Washington, D.C. as a government analyst on Turkish affairs. During that time, Suzanne taught French to government employees.<\/p>\n<p>Gerard Campagna was a bibliophile and donated many of the volumes in his collection to Boston University\u2019s Mugar Library.
