{"id":9121,"date":"2023-11-14T10:26:04","date_gmt":"2023-11-14T15:26:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/ciss\/?post_type=profile&#038;p=9121"},"modified":"2024-03-20T08:28:01","modified_gmt":"2024-03-20T12:28:01","slug":"jacqueline-georgis","status":"publish","type":"profile","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/ciss\/profile\/jacqueline-georgis\/","title":{"rendered":"Jacqueline Georgis"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Jacqueline (Lin) Georgis is an ethnomusicologist with research and teaching interests in music of the Luso-African world, African popular music, migration, electronic dance music, urban youth culture, and global music history. Prior to coming to BU, Lin has held teaching positions in the music departments at College of the Holy Cross (2022-2023) and Tufts University (Spring 2022), where she taught a wide range of courses, from seminars such as \u201cBeats of the Black Atlantic\u201d to larger lecture courses like \u201cTopics in World Music\u201d and \u201cAmerican Popular Song.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Her doctoral dissertation, \u201cBatida of the Diaspora\u201d, examines ideas of cultural hybridity and transnational exchange within the Lusophone-Atlantic. Through the lens of \u201cbatida\u201d, a contemporary African-inspired electronic dance music created in Lisbon, Portugal, Lin traces the roots and development of Luso-African music in Lisbon from the mid-20th century to today, investigating the ways in which local producers, DJs, and record label managers have created alternative spaces of Afro-diasporic cultural expression and visibility. You can read her work in<span>\u00a0<\/span><em>Sonic Signatures<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/em>(2023)<em>,<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/em>an edited volume on the phenomenon of migrant and mobile music-making at night. She is currently working on a book on the late Cape Verdean singer, Ces\u00e1ria \u00c9vora, which is to be published as part of Bloomsbury\u2019s 33 1\/3 African Popular Music Series.<\/p>\n<p>When she\u2019s not teaching or doing research, Lin enjoys making music!
