Mentoring Conversations Brown Bag Lunch Series for Graduate Students & Postdocs

Throughout 2026 we will be debuting new programming for graduate students and postdoctoral scholars related to mentoring skills development – how to mentor others well. Each month we will have a different speaker on a different topic related to mentoring skills. Please bring your lunch and use this time to connect with your peers and to learn more about mentoring.

BUSPH Mentor Academy

Emerging World Leaders, a career mentorship program at BUSPH, has an exciting opportunity for postdocs at BUSPH. The Mentor Academy is a three-hour intensive workshop using NIH-recognized curriculum to train public health professionals in how to mentor others – a skill we often use but seldom teach formally in coursework. Registration is requested.

Teaching Statement Workshop

Writing a Teaching Statement…​Or is it a teaching philosophy? ​Or a teaching philosophy statement? This hands-on workshop guides participants on how to approach a teaching statement with purpose, balancing the expectations of a role versus what we know about ourselves, and the various ways to construct a teaching statement. This workshop is open to late-stage doctoral students and postdocs. Register today!

Jumpstart to Teaching Skills (J2TS) – June 2026

Registration for the June 2026 session is now open 

J2TS is designed to provide graduate students and postdocs – especially those with limited or no opportunities to be teaching assistants, teaching fellows, or postdocs with teaching responsibilities – with foundational knowledge and skills related to teaching and teaching-intensive faculty roles in the future. It is designed for those interested in a wide variety of future career paths.

Individual Development Plans (IDPs)

Date: Thursday, April 23, Time: 10am-11:15am
Date: Tuesday, June 16, Time: 10am-11:15am

IDPs are a customized roadmap for your professional training and goals that will enable you to make the most of your postdoctoral experience. All BU postdocs are required to develop and submit an individual development plan (IDP) annually for each appointment year. Online workshops are available to help you with the process!
