Hariri Institute for Computing and Computational Science &amp; Engineering and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cise\/profile\/ioannis-paschalidis\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CISE faculty affiliate and professor Yannis Paschalidis (ECE, SE, BME, CDS)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is studying how prepared we are for the next outbreak. Alongside <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Boston University infectious diseases expert <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/ceid\/about-the-center\/team\/nahid-bhadelia-md-mald\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nahid Bhadelia<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the two are developing an AI-powered global surveillance program called<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/ceid\/projects-partnerships\/beacon\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Biothreats Emergence, Analysis and Communications Network<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or BEACON, which is designed to detect pandemic outbreaks early and help optimize response strategies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">By analyzing real-time data from sources like hospitals, travel patterns, and climate conditions, BEACON identifies potential outbreaks before they grow to dangerous levels.
