Photo by Dave Green.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Center for Information and Systems Engineering <a href=\"http:\/\/bu.edu\/systems\">(CISE)<\/a> partnered with Greg Woolf, CEO of Coalesce.Info and moderator of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.meetup.com\/Cognitive-Computing\/\">The Cognitive Computing Group of Boston<\/a>, to host a community evening focused on Robotics &amp; AI research at Boston University, on February 28, 2017.<br \/>\nThe event began with a demonstration of a student-built robot by the Boston University Academy First Robotics team, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/bufirst\/\">Overclocked<\/a>. Ioannis Paschalidis, Director of CISE, opened the presentations by giving an overview of the direction and efforts of the center.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_20515\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-20515\" style=\"width: 342px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/cise\/files\/2017\/03\/web_RoboticsEvent_0008.jpg\" alt=\"BUA Overclocked Team. Photo by Dave Green.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Presentations featured BU College of Engineering faculty, Christos Cassandras, Calin Belta, and Janusz Konrad. Cassandras discussed his work with \u2018Robotics and Automation in Smart Cities\u2019, Belta gave an overview of his Robotics lab projects and discussed \u2018Formal Languages for Human-Robot Interaction\u2019 and Konrad spoke about \u2018Localization and Recognition of Indoor Activities in the Age of Privacy Concerns\u2019. Representing industry, invited speaker, Jacob Holstein, Deployment Engineer, Amazon Robotics, discussed the use of cutting-edge robots at Amazon\u2019s fulfillment centers.<br \/>\nTo close out the evening, meeting attendees were given a guided tour of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/eng\/current-students\/epic\/\">EPIC<\/a> by Professor Gerald Fine and the\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/robotics\/\">Robotics lab<\/a> by PhD students, Zachary Serlin and Xiao Li.
