As part of the internship she had to familiarize herself with all parts of the production process: reading and writing coverage on incoming screenplays of many different genres, searching for news stories that could make for an interesting script, and keeping the company&#8217;s database organized.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Of her experience, Melissa writes: &#8220;Having grown up in Nigeria and had my only experience in the film industry be in my hometown, it has been great to have a supervisor at Groundswell who walks us through the industry in America and all its moving parts. Sometimes, it can be daunting, but most of the time it&#8217;s exciting. Groundswell runs a year-round<span>\u00a0<\/span><span data-markjs=\"true\" class=\"markj4bjb77uc\" data-ogac=\"\" data-ogab=\"\" data-ogsc=\"\" data-ogsb=\"\">internship<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span>program for undergraduate students, and I am lucky to have stumbled upon this opportunity!&#8221;<\/div>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h2 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">Honors Projects and Essays<\/h2><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Honors Projects<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Violet Chen, CIMS &#8217;25\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Topic: <em>Alienation and Assimilation: Rethinking Asian American Cinema<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Wendy Morera, CIMS &#8217;25\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Topic: <em>The Politics of a Lens: V\u011bra Chytilov\u00e1\u2019s Manipulation of Looking<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Notable Essays<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>As part of her course on &#8220;Women, Feminism and Television,&#8221; CIMS major <strong>Kaitlyn Riggio\u00a0<\/strong>examined the role of gender as a narrative tool in the reality series, <em>Survivor<\/em>.\u00a0 Her insightful essay, &#8220;Real-World Gender Dynamics as Narrative Tools in <em>Survivor: Vanuatu<\/em>&#8221; explores the way that producers exploit pre-existing power relations in order to transform the so-called reality show into a highly constructed narrative of &#8220;gender battle.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>As part of her course, &#8220;Modern Korean Culture Through Cinema,&#8221; CIMS major <strong>Christina Xu\u00a0<\/strong>investigated the critique of capitalist domesticity in Kim Ki-duk&#8217;s ethereal film, <em>3Iron<\/em>.\u00a0 Focusing her analysis on the relation between verbal and non-verbal spaces in the film, Christina brilliantly shows how the film transforms our perception of the home through scenes of ghostly, silent witnessing. Ultimately, she argues, the film creates the cinematic equivalent of a silent protest against the structures of ownership and violence that otherwise define social relations.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, CIMS major <strong>Danielle Momoh\u00a0<\/strong>drew on Judith Butler&#8217;s landmark theory of gender performance as a lens to analyze the Netflix series,\u00a0<em>Stranger Things<\/em>.\u00a0 As Danielle perceptively illustrates, the show&#8217;s protagonist Eleven hollows out the expectations of &#8220;innate femininity&#8221; that are projected onto her, before finally assuming a threatening but also surprisingly powerful androgyny, like that described by Virginia Woolf, &#8220;resonant and porous&#8230;incandescent and divided.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":15854,"featured_media":0,"parent":502,"menu_order":2,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","template":"","meta":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cims\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/727"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cims\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cims\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/page"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cims\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/15854"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cims\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=727"}],"version-history":[{"count":33,"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cims\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/727\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":2349,"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cims\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/727\/revisions\/2349"}],"up":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cims\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/502"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cims\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=727"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
