"Framing Agnes" Screening and Director Q&A

  • Starts: 5:00 pm on Monday, March 27, 2023
The Cinema & Media Studies Program, along with Diversity & Inclusion, and Women's, Gender & Sexuality Studies program will host a screening of Chase Joynt's new award-winning documentary, "Framing Agnes" (2021), with a special Q&A moderated by Dr. Sean Desilets. "Framing Agnes" is a formally innovative documentary that examines the mythology of a pioneering trans woman who attended the early UCLA gender clinic in the 1960s. It has been described as "form-rupturing" and a film of "decisive radicality" in its effort to pursue the cultural memory of transness through reflections on the cinematic frame. Joynt is an internationally recognized Canadian filmmaker known for his contributions to trans documentary, and we are thrilled to be able to host him for this special event.
