Sexual Assault Awareness Month
Sexual Assault Awareness Month
April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM), a national campaign to raise awareness about sexual violence, prevent harm, and support survivors. Many survivors navigate their trauma alone due to stigma, shame, and harmful myths about sexual violence. SAAM amplifies survivor voices, gives opportunities for allyship, and encourages community education to help prevent future harm.
Each year, the Boston University community hosts opportunities for students, faculty, and staff to contribute to a community of safety and support. We recognize that no single office, policy, or program can create safety on its own. This month reminds us that the community we want is one we must build together.
Prevention Efforts
BU Denim Day
BU Denim Day raises awareness, sparks discussion, and shows support as part of the international movement to end victim-blaming and myths about sexual violence. All BU community members are encouraged to wear denim and get an “Ask Me About My Denim!” pin through Survivor Advocacy, Response & Prevention (SARP). Learn more about why we wear denim.
Look for BU Denim Day tables annually at locations across the Charles River and Medical campus. These pop-ups offer sweet treats, pins, resources, and connections to students and staff who are helping to reduce sexual violence at BU.
