Schaus"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<h3 style=\"font-family: sans-serif\">Research<\/h3>\n<p>Research in the Schaus Group is focused in two major areas: enantioselective catalytic synthetic methodologies for chemical synthesis and biomedical research, the latter conducted at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cmd\/\">Boston University Center for Molecular Discovery<\/a>. Catalytic methods developed in the Schaus Research Laboratories include enantioselective boronate reactions, asymmetric Mannich reactions, and metal-promoted condensation reactions.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Enantioselective Boronate Catalysis<\/strong> \u2013 The development of methodologies to construct chiral building blocks and natural products using boronates.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Asymmetric Mannich Reactions<\/strong> \u2013 The use of cinchona amine, acid, and diol catalysis in the synthesis of chiral amines and heterocycles.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Biomedical Research<\/strong> \u2013\u00a0Advance translational science in the treatment of cancer and infectious disease in conjunction with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cmd\/\">CMD-BU<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Cancer Treatments<\/strong> \u2013 Develop treatments for cancers challenging to treat in collaboration with Professor Ulla Hansen in the Department of Biology and clinicians. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/articles\/2012\/taking-on-cancer-tackling-liver-cancer-in-the-lab\">Taking on liver cancer in the lab.<\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong>Neglected Tropical Disease<\/strong> \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/articles\/2013\/bu-researchers-work-against-deadly-disfiguring-disease\">BU Researchers Work against Deadly, Disfiguring Disease.<\/a> Pharmaceutical giant GSK chooses team in its new competition.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 style=\"font-family: sans-serif\">Publications<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/sites\/myncbi\/scott.schaus.1\/bibliography\/40964262\/public\/?sort=date&amp;direction=descending\">NCBI PubMed<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/scholar.google.com\/citations?user=zjVSTm8AAAAJ&amp;hl=en\">Google Scholar<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 style=\"font-family: sans-serif\">Techniques &amp; Resources<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Organic Synthesis techniques are used and include modern methods for synthesis, purification, and analysis of organic molecules.<\/li>\n<li>The Center for Molecular Discovery (CMD-BU) is an NIH-funded Center at Boston University which focuses on development of new methodologies for the synthesis of chemical libraries and biomedical research.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 style=\"font-family: sans-serif\">What\u2019s Next for Graduates of the Schaus Group?<\/h3>\n<p>Since 2001, 20 graduate students have completed their Ph.D. dissertations and 3 postdoctoral fellows have completed fellowships.<\/p>\n<p>Of those who have completed training, 6 of 20 have pursued academic or postdoctoral positions while the remainder have pursued careers in the pharmaceutical industry or professional sciences.
