Hariri Institute for Computing and Computational Science &amp; Engineering<\/a>\u00a0<em><\/em><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; font-size: small;\">was established in 2011 both to recognize outstanding junior faculty at Boston University working in diverse areas<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; font-size: small;\">\u00a0of the computational sciences, as well as to provide focal points for supporting broader collaborative research in these areas at BU and beyond. Junior Fellows are selected by the Hariri Institute Executive Steering Committee based on nominations received each spring, and are appointed for a two-year term. \u00a0Each Fellow <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; font-size: small;\">will give a Hariri Institute Distinguished Lecture. <\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; font-size: small;\">Chemistry&#8217;s Professor<\/span><strong style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/chemistry\/people\/faculty\/bravaya\/\"> Ksenia Bravaya<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; font-size: small;\">\u00a0was named one of the four faculty selected as a Fellow for the 2014-2016 term.\u00a0<\/span><span face=\"Calibri,sans-serif\" size=\"2\" color=\"#333333\" style=\"color: #333333; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; font-size: small;\">Professor Bravaya<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/chemistry\/2013\/08\/28\/ksenia-bravaya-joins-chemistry\/\"> joined the Department of Chemistry in 2013<\/a>. \u00a0Her research focuses on state-of-the-art\u00a0applications and fundamental studies of the microscopic processes at the heart of bio-imaging\u00a0of cellular processes and excited state reactions, as well as on the development of new quantum\u00a0chemical computational methodology aimed at addressing unsolved critical challenges in the simulation of a wide\u00a0variety of excited electronic state processes in complex systems.<\/span><\/p>\n<div align=\"justify\">\n<p align=\"justify\"><span face=\"Calibri,sans-serif\" size=\"2\" color=\"#333333\" style=\"color: #333333; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; font-size: small;\">Professor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/chemistry\/people\/faculty\/ziegler\/\">Lawrence Ziegler<\/a>, Chemistry Department Chair, describes her as &#8220;<span face=\"Calibri,sans-serif\"><i>a Theoretical and Computational Chemist of national standing and a rising star in the international community,&#8221;<\/i><\/span><i>\u00a0<\/i>adding that<i>\u00a0<\/i><span face=\"Calibri,sans-serif\"><i>&#8220;given her strong upward trajectory in highest quality research productivity and her\u00a0pivotal role in developing University Research initiatives in computational materials science, it is no surprise that she\u00a0has received this honor to be a Hariri Junior Faculty Fellow.\u00a0She will be an excellent ambassador for Computational Science.<\/i><\/span>&#8220;<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Junior Faculty Fellows program of Boston University&#8217;s\u00a0Rafik B.
