Because Chemistry majors complete prerequisite work across math, physics, chemistry, and (in some cases) biology, transfer planning can be complex. Mackenzie Hubbard can help connect you to a faculty member upon request.<\/p>\n<h3>Transfer Credit Evaluation<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Chemistry courses taken elsewhere must be reviewed by the department to count toward your major.<\/li>\n<li>Submit <strong>syllabi<\/strong> for each course you&#8217;d like evaluated.<\/li>\n<li>Evaluations are handled by subject-specific experts (e.g. General Chemistry is evaluated by the Director of General Chemistry).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/reg\/transfer-credit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><button>Learn More<\/button><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Typical First Semester Courses (Depending on if you are a sophomore or junior)<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Organic Chemistry (CH203 or CH211)<\/strong> \u2013 if you completed a year of General Chemistry<\/li>\n<li><strong>Mathematics<\/strong> \u2013 If you\u2019ve completed Calculus I and II:\n<ul>\n<li>Chemistry and Chemistry: Materials &amp; Nanoscience specialization majors: <strong>CH225 \u2013 Mathematical Methods for Molecular Science<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Chemistry &amp; Physics majors: <strong>MA 225 \u2013 Calculus III<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Chemical Biology specialization majors: CH225 not required, but <em>highly <\/em><em>recommended<\/em> to support CH352 \u2013 Physical Chemistry<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Physics or Physical Chemistry<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li>If you\u2019ve completed Calculus I\u2013III and two semesters of calculus-based Physics, take <strong>CH352 \u2013 Physical Chemistry II<\/strong> (offered fall only, required for all Chemistry majors\/specializations)\n<ul>\n<li>If you are entering BU in the spring, then you may want to register for\u00a0<strong>CH351 &#8211; Physical Chemistry I <\/strong>(offered spring only, required for CH, CMN, and CH &amp; PY majors)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Otherwise, take <strong>Physics I or II<\/strong> based on your previous coursework and major requirements<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>You should also consider:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Electives to fulfill <a href=\"\/hub\/advising-and-the-hub\/hub-requirements-for-students\/hub-requirements-for-transfer-students\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BU Hub requirements for transfer students<\/a> or the CAS language requirement<\/li>\n<li>Courses toward a <strong>minor<\/strong> or second major<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cas\/student-life\/undergraduate-students\/ospl\/the-first-year-experience\/fy101\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">HUB FY101<\/a> \u2013 transfer specific FY101 section (0 units, carries IIC HUB requirement)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Please review the <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/casreg\/cas-transfer-student-registration-checklist\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CAS Transfer Registration Checklist<\/a> for more guidance on selecting your first-semester courses. We encourage you to connect with both your academic advisor and faculty mentor early to review your course plan, research interests, and career goals.<\/p>\n<h3>Other information for transfer students<\/h3>\n<h4>CAS Language Requirement<\/h4>\n<p>CAS students can fulfill the foreign language requirement by completing four semesters of college-level study, placing into a higher level via a placement exam, or <strong>waiving the requirement<\/strong> by demonstrating proficiency through standardized tests (such as AP, IB, or SAT Subject Tests) or a <strong>language proficiency evaluation<\/strong> for languages not taught at BU.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/cas\/academics\/undergraduate-education\/academic-advising\/advising\/language-advising\/foreign-language-requirement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Learn more about fulfilling or waiving the language requirement<\/a><\/p>\n<h4>CAS Advising Forms<\/h4>\n<p>Need to declare a major or minor, add or drop a course, or request a graduation review? CAS Advising provides a range of online forms to support your academic planning.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/cas\/academics\/undergraduate-education\/academic-advising\/advising\/forms\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Access CAS Advising forms here<\/a><\/p>\n<h4>BU Hub Requirements for Transfer Students<\/h4>\n<p>Transfer students follow a modified version of the BU Hub curriculum, because transferred coursework does not satisfy BU Hub requirements. These modified requirements ensure a smooth transition into BU\u2019s general education program, while recognizing prior coursework.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>When choosing a <strong>Hub course<\/strong>, you should consider selecting a course or two that fulfills Hub requirements you<span>\u00a0<\/span><em>won\u2019t<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/em>fulfill with your major, including:\n<ul>\n<li>Philosophical, Aesthetic, &amp; Historical Interpretation.\n<ul>\n<li><em>Note:<\/em> Chemistry &amp; Physics majors can earn this HUB requirement from PY351 &#8211; Modern Physics 1<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Social Inquiry I or II<\/li>\n<li>Diversity, Civic Engagement, &amp; Global Citizenship\n<ul>\n<li><em>Note:<\/em> These HUB requirements are typically satisfied by completing CAS language courses on BU&#8217;s campus<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><span>If you\u2019re not sure how to find a Hub elective, you can review our<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/casreg\/registration-instructions-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span>registration instructions<\/span><\/a><span><span>\u00a0<\/span>for tips on browsing by Hub requirement.<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"\/hub\/advising-and-the-hub\/hub-requirements-for-students\/hub-requirements-for-transfer-students\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Learn more about Hub requirements for transfer students<\/a><\/p>\n<h4>BU Pre-Health Advising<\/h4>\n<p>If you are interested in entering a <a href=\"\/prehealth\/health-professions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">health profession<\/a> (medicine, dentistry, pharmaceuticals, etc) after graduating from BU, it is important that you familiarize yourself with the <a href=\"\/prehealth\/academics\/prehealthcurriculum\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pre-health curriculum<\/a> and connect with pre-health advisors. Prior to requesting an appointment, all students are required to self-enroll and complete their Blackboard <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/prehealth\/pre-health-101\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pre-Health 101 course<\/a>.
