Minjung Son Awarded DOE Early Career Research Award
Recently, Assistant Professor Minjung Son (CHEM) and team received a major grant from the Department of Energy: the Early Career Research Award. The award promises $875,000 over five years, which, in the DOE’s words, allows recipients “to pursue new ideas and harness the resources of the user facilities to increase the potential for breakthrough new discoveries.”
With the assistance of this award funding, the Son lab aims to continue their research relating to energy capture and usage.
“This funding will support our research into how energy moves through photosynthetic pigments and proteins when they are placed in photonic structures that confine light,” Son explained. “By uncovering these underlying mechanisms, we aim to develop new strategies for controlling energy at the nanoscale for applications in solar energy, sensing, and next-generation electronics.”
