{"id":33113,"date":"2017-11-23T09:55:50","date_gmt":"2017-11-23T14:55:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cgs\/?p=33113"},"modified":"2020-03-20T09:54:51","modified_gmt":"2020-03-20T13:54:51","slug":"looking-at-trauma-from-a-multidisciplinary-perspective","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cgs\/2017\/11\/23\/looking-at-trauma-from-a-multidisciplinary-perspective\/","title":{"rendered":"Looking at Trauma From a Multidisciplinary Perspective"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A theologian, a social worker, and a literature professor all lend their scholarly perspectives to the topic of trauma in a class designed by CGS Assistant Professor of Humanities <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cgs\/profile\/joshua-pederson\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Joshua Pederson<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pederson came up with the multidisciplinary course idea as he saw the study of trauma expand across academic disciplines.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cYou can talk about sociological trauma or historical trauma or psychological trauma,\u201d <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pederson tells <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/today\/2017\/teaching-trauma\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">BU Today<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c The idea of the course is to bring together people in different fields who were working with trauma as a category, to get us all in the same room and in some ways just learn from each other<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/today\/2017\/teaching-trauma\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">BU Today<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> reports that the course, which was conceived by Pederson and designed with a grant from the Provost&#8217;s Office, covers the science, moral implications, and different triggers of trauma, and is open to all undergraduates.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pederson built the course as a three-pronged approach to trauma.
