Two sample pathway options are offered: the Interdisciplinary option and the Graduate option.<\/p>\n<p><span>The Interdisciplinary option gives students the flexibility to combine physics with another focus area in an interdisciplinary program. Please note that students who are exempt from CGS NS 202 <strong>must<\/strong> enroll in at least one CGS course in Term 2 of sophomore year.<\/p>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p><span><div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h3 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">Major Requirements<\/h3><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Interdisciplinary Option<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The Interdisciplinary option provides students with a strong physics preparation, but also provides them the flexibility to pursue an interdisciplinary academic program combining physics with training in a related science or engineering program. It is well suited for students planning to pursue graduate studies in a discipline other than physics or to enter a career in a related field upon graduation.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Prerequisites (6)<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>CAS MA 123 and 124, or MA 127<\/li>\n<li>CAS PY 251, 252, 351, 355 (or PY 211, 212, 313, 355)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>Principal Courses (8)<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>CAS PY 405, 408, and 451.<\/li>\n<li><strong><u>Two<\/u><\/strong>\u00a0additional physics courses at the 300 level or above (but not including CAS PY 313, 351, 355, 401, 402, 482, 491, or 492) are also required.<\/li>\n<li>In addition,\u00a0<strong><u>three<\/u><\/strong>\u00a0coordinated courses from a participating science (CS, MA, BI, etc.) or engineering department are required.\n<ul>\n<li>If the participating department is in CAS, at least <strong>one of these courses must be at the 300 level or higher<\/strong>, and the\u00a0<strong>other two must be at the 200 level or higher<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>If these are mathematics (MA) courses, they must be different from the required courses mentioned below.<\/li>\n<li>If the participating department is in the College of Engineering (ENG),\u00a0<strong>all three courses <\/strong>must be at the junior level or above.<\/li>\n<li>CAS PY 581 may be used to satisfy the requirement of a 300-level course from a participating department in CAS or a course from a participating department in ENG.<\/li>\n<li>Please consider\u00a0the prerequisites for the 300-level or higher courses from participating departments when mapping out a schedule.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>A grade of C or higher must be attained in all principal courses.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>Required Related Courses (2)<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>CAS MA 225 and<strong>\u00a0one other mathematics course at the 200 level or higher<\/strong>\u00a0chosen in consultation with the student\u2019s physics advisor<\/li>\n<li>A grade of C or higher must be attained in both of these required related courses.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Graduate Option<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The Graduate Option provides students with a comprehensive and rigorous education in classical and modern physics. It is well suited for students intending to pursue graduate study in physics or a closely related field, or those planning to enter a technical physics-related career upon graduation.
