Registration Date: Sunday, November 12, 2023<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Please read these instructions carefully. Note: these guidelines are intended to prepare you for your academic advising appointment, not replace your appointment. You must\u00a0make an advising appointment<\/a>\u00a0with your CGS academic advisor to review your academic plans. You will not be able to register for classes until you have spoken with your advisor.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Please contact CGS Student Services (617-353-2850,\u00a0cgs@bu.edu<\/a>) with any questions regarding the course registration process. Remember to include your full name and BU ID# in your email. Academic questions, including which courses you should register for, should be directed to your CGS academic advisor.<\/p>\n

Step One: Understand the Big Picture<\/h4>
<\/p>\n

College of General Studies Program Requirements<\/strong><\/p>\n

The CGS Program: <\/strong>The College of General Studies\u2019 innovative, integrated, interdisciplinary, team-based program inspires students to make connections between disciplines and to connect their knowledge to real-world problems.<\/p>\n

CGS Program Requirements: <\/strong>Required CGS program courses include two writing courses in the first year and two natural science courses in the second year. To complete the CGS program, students select at least three additional CGS humanities courses and at least three additional CGS social sciences courses to be taken during the first and second years. For more information, see the\u00a0College of General Studies Program requirements<\/a>.<\/p>\n

BU Hub: <\/strong>All BU students will pursue coursework in the\u00a0BU Hub<\/a>, a general education program that is integrated into the entire undergraduate experience. BU Hub requirements are flexible and can be satisfied in many ways, through coursework in and beyond the major and, in some cases, through co-curricular activities. The CGS program fulfills\u00a0most of the\u00a0BU Hub University-wide general education requirements<\/a>, and all CGS courses carry BU Hub units.<\/p>\n

Students will determine the most appropriate course selection in consultation with their academic advisor.<\/p>\n

Advanced Credit<\/strong><\/p>\n

Students who wish to apply an Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), or any other examination scores\u00a0must<\/strong>\u00a0consult with their CGS academic advisor. Please refer to Boston University\u2019s Admissions\u00a0website<\/a>\u00a0for further information.<\/p>\n

To have your test scores reviewed for college credit, an official score report must be sent to Boston University. All Advanced Placement reports should be sent to the Admissions Office directly from College Board; all other score reports should be sent to the International Admissions Office at\u00a0intadmis@bu.edu<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The following AP\/IB scores award credit for the noted CGS\u00a0first-year courses<\/strong>\u00a0and HUB units:<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n

Step Two: Elective Options<\/h4>

Choosing an Elective<\/strong><\/p>\n

Your spring 2024 schedule will consist of a combination of courses that work towards the\u00a0College of General Studies Program requirements<\/a> in addition to one or more elective courses. Electives are courses taken either for academic exploration or to work towards a particular major or degree plan.<\/p>\n

The school and college pages below outline elective options. If an elective is unavailable at the time of registration, you\u00a0can select an alternative elective.<\/p>\n
