Students who study rhetoric know how to research a topic, craft a sentence, and build an argument.<\/p>\n<h2>What do you get from studying rhetoric?<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Clear writing, which flows from clear thinking. You\u2019ll learn both in your rhetoric classes.<\/li>\n<li>The ability to write an organized, coherent argument with a particular audience in mind<\/li>\n<li>Persuasiveness\u2014the skills to use evidence and reasoning to make a case<\/li>\n<li>Critical thinking tools for reading, writing and speaking\u2014including oral presentation and digital and multimedia expression skills<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Read more about <a href=\"\/cgs\/academics\/divisions\/rhetoric\/outcomes\">rhetoric outcomes<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>What will my rhetoric courses cover?<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>History will integrate with rhetoric as you learn about the origin and development of rhetoric and why it\u2019s relevant today<\/li>\n<li>You\u2019ll learn the essay form and refine your skills in grammar, style, and organization<\/li>\n<li>You\u2019ll write inside the classroom and outside of the classroom, developing a process that takes you from class discussion to instructor conferences to the outside world<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Rhetoric Requirements<\/h2>\n<p>Both rhetoric courses are required. RH 104 is taken during the summer semester. Students will receive semester-long instruction and practice in writing, oral communication, and research and information literacy.
