On December 6, 2019, Professor Menegon coordinated \u00a0a cordial and successful meeting with the leaders of the official and government-endorsed Catholic Chinese Bishop Conference at Boston College\u2019s Institute for Advanced Jesuit Studies<\/a>, where he is a Collaborative Scholar.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>The delegation consisted of six members: Bishop Ma Yinglin \u9a6c\u82f1\u6797 President of Bishop\u2019s Conference of Catholic Church in China (BCCCC) and \u00a0Bishop of Kunming diocese (Yunnan Province); Bishop Zhan Silu\u8a79\u601d\u7984, Vice President of BCCCC and Bishop of Mindong diocese (Fujian Province); Bishop He Zeqing \u4f55\u6cfd\u6e05, Vice President of BCCCC and Bishop of Wanzhou diocese\uff08Chongqing City\uff09; Bishop Wang Renlei\u738b\u4ec1\u96f7, Bishop of Xuzhou diocese\uff08Jiangsu Province\uff09; Bishop Li Suguang \u674e\u7a23\u5149, Bishop of Jiangxi diocese\uff08Jiangxi Province\uff09; and Rev. John Chen Guangqian \u9648\u5e7f\u524dtheir interpreter and Academic Dean of Shaanxi Catholic Major Seminary, Shaanxi City (Shaanxi Province).<\/p>\n

The purpose of the Chinese Bishops\u2019 trip was:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. to study how Catholic dioceses are run in the USA, to learn about the development and education of vocations, and to understand how to improve the relationship between the Church and society.\u00a0 They also hoped to learn about the operations of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.<\/li>\n
  2. To introduce the accomplishments of the Catholic Church in China during the past thirty years.<\/li>\n
  3. To invite bishops and other responsible figures within the American Church to visit the Church in China.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    The delegation first visited Chicago (December 1-3) and then St. Vincent Archabbey outside of Pittsburgh (December 3-5).\u00a0 The final stop was Boston (December 5-7), where they visited the Catholic St. John Seminary and Boston College, and met with Boston\u2019s Cardinal O\u2019Malley<\/p>\n

    At BC Menegon presented his 2010 monograph on Catholicism in Mindong, Ancestors, Virgins and Friars\u00a0<\/em>(Mindong is the diocese of visiting Bishop Vincent Zhan), \u00a0and BU CGCM\u2019s China-related research, including the Chinese Christian Posters website and the China Historical Christian Database in development.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
