{"id":1512,"date":"2010-01-13T16:59:37","date_gmt":"2010-01-13T21:59:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/vpfa\/?page_id=1512"},"modified":"2024-08-02T14:18:42","modified_gmt":"2024-08-02T18:18:42","slug":"rental-procedures","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cfo\/risk-management\/automobile-safety\/rental-procedures\/","title":{"rendered":"Automobile Rental Procedures"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><u>Renting a Vehicle within the United States<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For employees renting vehicles with the permission of the University, for University business purposes, BU\u2019s insurance program provides the following coverages for hired and non-owned vehicles\u00a0<em>at no additional charge<\/em>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Automobile Liability Insurance<\/li>\n<li>Automobile Physical Damage Insurance (aka CDW)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Please\u00a0<strong>DECLINE<\/strong>\u00a0collision damage waiver (CDW) insurance and any additional rental liability insurance that may be offered at the time of rental for:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Private passenger vehicles (e.g. sedans, and SUV\u2019s)<\/li>\n<li>Passenger vans with a capacity &lt; 9 people (e.g. mini vans)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Please<strong> ACCEPT and purchase <\/strong>collision damage waiver (CDW) when renting any of the following types of vehicles:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Cargo vans<\/li>\n<li>Passenger vans with a capacity &gt; 9 people;<\/li>\n<li>Trucks or any vehicles with an open cargo bed;<\/li>\n<li>Motorcycles, mopeds or motorbikes;<\/li>\n<li>Limousines, and antique or exotic cars<\/li>\n<li>Recreational vehicles<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>IT IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED THAT ALL VEHICLES BE RENTED USING BOSTON UNIVERSITY\u2019S CORPORATE VISA TRAVEL CARD WITH US BANK\u00a0<\/strong>as this will provide supplemental insurance in the event of an accident provided the rental period does not exceed fifteen (15) consecutive days.<\/p>\n<p>Please click <a href=\"\/cfo\/files\/2024\/08\/Visa-Commercial-Card-Guide-to-Benefits-2023.pdf\">here<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/usa.visa.com\/content\/dam\/VCOM\/download\/personal\/cards\/credit\/visa_benefits_autorental_cdw.pdf\"><\/a>for detailed information regarding coverage provided under the Boston University Corporate Visa Card.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Renting a Vehicle outside of the United States<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><strong>IT IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED THAT ALL VEHICLES BE RENTED USING BOSTON UNIVERSITY\u2019S CORPORATE VISA TRAVEL CARD WITH US BANK. <\/strong>Please click <a href=\"https:\/\/usa.visa.com\/content\/dam\/VCOM\/download\/personal\/cards\/credit\/visa_benefits_autorental_cdw.pdf\">here<\/a> for detailed information regarding coverage provided under the Boston University Corporate Visa Card.<\/p>\n<p>Yes, I am renting the vehicle using my Boston University Corporate Visa Travel Card:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>DECLINE collision damage waiver (CDW) insurance<\/li>\n<li>ACCEPT the <u>minimum limits<\/u> of rental liability insurance that may be offered at the time of rental.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Yes, I am renting the vehicle using my Boston University Corporate Visa Travel Card in <strong>Israel, Jamaica, the Republic of Ireland, <\/strong>or<strong> Northern Ireland<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>ACCEPT collision damage waiver (CDW) insurance<\/li>\n<li>ACCEPT the <u>minimum limits<\/u> of rental liability insurance that may be offered at the time of rental.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>No, I am NOT renting the vehicle using my Boston University Corporate Visa Travel Card:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>ACCEPT collision damage waiver (CDW) insurance<\/li>\n<li>ACCEPT the <u>minimum limits<\/u> of rental liability insurance that may be offered at the time of rental.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>In the event of an accident:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Notify the rental company and local authorities with full details of the accident including:\n<ol>\n<li>Name of other driver(s)<\/li>\n<li>Name of witness(es)<\/li>\n<li>Details of any injuries<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>If there are injuries, ensure injured person received the proper medical treatment.<\/li>\n<li>If rental was procured using Boston University Corporate Visa Travel Card, call collect at 410-581-9994.
