Each fall, we put on the annual <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cfa\/music\/opera\/fringe-festival\/\">Fringe Festival<\/a>, which is a collaboration between CFA School of Music\u2019s Opera Institute and School of Theatre. Fringe features new and rarely performed significant works in the opera and theatre repertoire, bringing performances and audiences together in unique theatrical settings.<\/p>\n<p>And in the spring, two mainstage operas invite the BU community and beyond to experience the exceptional talent of the students in the program, within incredible productions supported by the School of Theatre.<\/p>\n<h1>2025 &#8211; 2026 Season<\/h1>\n<h4><em>Fligh<strong>t<\/strong><\/em><\/h4>\n<h5>April 23-26, 2026<\/h5>\n<h5>Tsai Performance Center<\/h5>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jonathandove.com\/flight.html\"><em>Flight<\/em><\/a> <\/strong>is a superb original modern-day operatic comedy which has found universal popularity, with many different productions and over 150 performances to date across the world. The opera has both laugh-out-loud and more serious moments as the story of the refugee who lives in the airport \u2013 inspired by the true-life story of an Iranian refugee who lived at Charles de Gaulle Airport, Paris, for 18 years \u2013 unfolds around the different characters who find themselves delayed in the terminal.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jonathandove.com\/\">Jonathan Dove<\/a>, composer \u2022 April De Angelis, librettist<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cfa\/about\/contact-directions\/directory\/william-lumpkin\/\">William Lumpkin<\/a>, conductor \u2022 <a href=\"https:\/\/caraconsilvio.com\/\">Cara Consilvio<\/a>, stage director<\/p>\n<h3>Mainstage<\/h3>\n<h4><em>Rom\u00e9o et Juliette<\/em><\/h4>\n<h5>February 26-March 1, 2026<\/h5>\n<h5>Joan &amp; Edgar Booth Theatre<\/h5>\n<p><em>Rom\u00e9o et Juliette<\/em>, the well-known Shakespeare story of the warring families (Montague v. Newlywed nurse Maxie turns to her friends Lilian and Ramona for support when her husband Cal is captured during the Battle of the Bulge and imprisoned.\u00a0 Lyrical, funny, high energy, heartbreaking and heartwarming, <em>The Eleanors <\/em>is infused throughout with musical influences from swing and American Songbook.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jodigoble.com\/\">Jodi Goble<\/a>, composer and librettist \u2022 Michael Ching, co-librettist<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cfa\/about\/contact-directions\/directory\/matthew-larson\/\">Matthew Larson<\/a>, music director \u2022 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.edward-sturm.com\/\">Edward Sturm<\/a> (CFA&#8217;24), stage director<\/p>\n<h4><em>Thumbprint<\/em><\/h4>\n<h5>October 24-26, 2025<\/h5>\n<h5>Studio ONE<\/h5>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kamalasankaram.com\/product-page\/thumbprint\"><strong><em>Thumbprint<\/em><\/strong><\/a> is inspired by the extraordinary transformation of Mukhtar Mai, a young woman whose world was shattered by an act of brutality that could have destroyed her.
