When filling out your application, BUTI recommends that you select all programs for which you\u2019re interested in being considered. Selecting multiple programs of interest increases your chances of admission. In the event you are admitted to multiple programs, you will have the option to select which program(s) you would like to attend.<\/p>\n<p>If you wish to apply on multiple instruments or within multiple program areas, (for example, violin and composition), you must submit a separate application (with a reduced application fee) for each additional instrument or area. To apply on a secondary instrument, use the BUTI coupon code <strong>03BUTI54<\/strong>\u00a0on the final payment screen of the second application to obtain a reduced application fee of $30.00 on your second application. BUTI recommends unaccompanied auditions for instrumental auditions. If an instrumentalist chooses to use a pianist for their audition, however, they will not be penalized. <strong>Vocalists<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><span>are required to audition with live piano accompaniment*. BUTI does not provide accompanists<\/span>. Composition applications are required to submit scores to fulfill audition requirements.<\/p>\n<p><span>*<\/span><em>If you wish to use a recorded accompaniment, you must contact the BUTI offices to receive permission to do so. Permission is not guaranteed.<\/em><\/p>\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" id=\"yellow\" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h5 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">Recorded Auditions<\/h5><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><br \/>\nIf you choose to do a recorded audition, you will be prompted to upload your audition video(s) directly to the application. You will not be able to submit your application until your audition materials have been successfully uploaded. Video recordings are strongly preferred to audio recordings. You may choose to upload one continuous video, or separate video files. Your audition videos must be unedited.<\/p>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" id=\"yellow\" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h5 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">Live Auditions<\/h5><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><br \/>\nIn most cases, a member of the BUTI admissions staff will be present to record live auditions, which will then be shared with adjudication faculty at a later time. Individual pieces should not be edited, spliced, or modified in any way.<\/em><\/p>\n<ul><\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h5 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">Piano<\/h5><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><br \/>\n<strong>Audition Repertoire for the following Summer 2026 programs:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Applicants should prepare the following:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A one-minute introduction where you tell us your name, age, grade, hometown, and your interests in and outside of music (<strong>in addition<\/strong> to the 2026 personal statement prompt)<\/li>\n<li>One work or movement from Baroque or Classical period<\/li>\n<li>One work or movement from Romantic period<\/li>\n<li>One additional work or etude of your choice from any period, or a chamber music piece (encouraged)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Procedures:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Choose a variety of repertoire that best demonstrates your technique, expression, and command of different tempi and styles.<\/li>\n<li>Recordings must be genuinely performed by you.<\/li>\n<li>Record each selection as a separate file, and clearly label each of the uploaded files with name of composer and work\/movement.<\/li>\n<li>Insufficient or incomplete audition repertoire may affect consideration for admission.<\/li>\n<li>If you choose to record an arrangement, exercise good judgment and\/or consult with your piano teacher to ensure that it displays high standards of piano playing &#8211; reduction and over-simplification of original compositions are not acceptable.<\/li>\n<li>If one of your selections is a concerto, it must be recorded with an accompanist or orchestra.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Video quality:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Recordings do\u00a0not\u00a0need to be filmed in a particular setting, like a professional studio, but they should be made in a quiet and uncluttered environment, if possible.<\/li>\n<li>Single camera fixed on a tripod or on a stable surface is the preferred format. A resum\u00e9 is welcome but not required.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong><u>Electroacoustic Composition Workshop<br \/>\n<\/u><\/strong>Applicants should submit the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A written statement detailing your musical background and your interest in electronics and computers in composition.<\/li>\n<li>Recordings and\/or scores of three contrasting compositions of any genre (single movement works or individual movements of a larger work are accepted).
