Boston University College of Fine Arts School of Theatre<\/a> presented Sunday in the Park with George<\/em> from April 25 to 28 in BU\u2019s Joan & Edgar Booth Theatre<\/a>. Inspired by the painting A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte<\/em> by Georges Seurat, Sunday in the Park with George<\/em>, Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine\u2019s stunning masterpiece, merges past and present into beautiful, poignant truths about life, love, and the creation of art.<\/p><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

One of the most acclaimed musicals of all time, this moving study of the enigmatic painter, Georges Seurat, won a Pulitzer Prize and was nominated for 10 Tony Awards, including Best Musical. The BU School of Theatre production of Sunday in the Park with George<\/em> is directed by Clay Hopper<\/a> (CFA’05), Senior Lecturer, Directing, and Katya Stanislavskaya is the show\u2019s music director.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSunday in the Park with George<\/em> is Sondheim\u2019s masterpiece about the act of artistic creation \u2014 and what happens when the element of our common humanity is absent from it. The score is exquisite, the script is often hilarious, and among its many themes, artfully interwoven, is one of radical reassertion of our humanity as the center of art\u2019s reason for being,\u201d says Clay Hopper. \u201cIn an atomized world, where our connections to each other can be so mediated that we lose sight of why we\u2019re connecting in the first place, this play is a bright sunbeam, a ray hope of hope that our capacity to perceive beauty in all things \u2014 and to make that beauty \u2014 is our strongest connection of all.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
