BUTI is Back! <\/strong><\/em>Programs\u00a0and workshops this summer include 18 Workshops (June 19-July 2, 2022) and 6 Young Artists Programs for Strings and Orchestra<\/a>; Winds & Brass<\/a>; Percussion<\/a>;\u00a0Harp<\/a>; Voice<\/a>;\u00a0Composition<\/a>; and Piano<\/a> (July 3-August 13, 2022).<\/p>\n

BUTI\u2019s Young Artists Chorus, Young Artists Orchestra, and Young Artists Wind Ensemble will perform a concert series from July 15\u2013August 13, 2022. A notable roster of conductors includes Mei-Ann Chen<\/a>, Damon Gupton<\/a>, Paul Haas<\/a> (BUTI\u201987, \u201988), David Martins<\/a>, H. Robert Reynolds<\/a>, Mallory Thompson<\/a>, and Katie Woolf (BU\u201905). BUTI\u2019s affiliation with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Tanglewood Music Center will continue to be a highlight!<\/p>\n

Announcing New Programs for Instrumentalists and Singers<\/span><\/em>\u00a0<\/span><\/em>in June 2022<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

Composition Fundamentals Workshop<\/u> (CFWS) |<\/strong> (June 19-July 2, 2022)<\/span><\/p>\n

Acclaimed composers and program advisors Valerie Coleman<\/a> (BUTI\u201989, CFA\u201995) and Missy Mazzoli<\/a> (BUTI\u201998, CFA\u201902) have collaborated with Boston University\u2019s Martin Amlin<\/a>, CFWS Director, to create a new pathway for aspiring composers at the beginning of their creative journey. For singers and instrumentalists who are currently excelling in performance: If you are writing or intend to write original works and crave more individualized training in the fundamentals of the craft, the Composition Fundamentals Workshop<\/a> is for you!<\/p>\n

To encourage applicants at all levels to pursue this opportunity, application fees will be waived for this program. Do not be concerned about your perceived readiness\u2014we want you to apply<\/a>!<\/p>\n

Woodwind Quintet Workshop (WQWS)<\/u> |<\/strong> (June 19-July 2, 2022)<\/span><\/p>\n

Valerie Coleman<\/a> (BUTI’89, CFA’95), composer, flutist, and founding member of Imani Winds, will direct a new Woodwind Quintet Workshop<\/a>. Modeled after the String Quartet Workshop<\/a>, the WQWS is designed for advanced players who are eager to delve into this expansive and evolving area of performance. Application requirements are the same for all programs that woodwind players are eligible for, and we encourage applicants to consider this exciting new opportunity! Join a TownHall Information Meeting!<\/strong><\/em><\/h4>\n

During the academic year, BUTI staff travel across the country to recruit the most talented and diverse group of students possible to join us in Lenox to live, learn and make music together all summer. New in 2021-2022, BUTI is hosting a series of town hall-style meetings where students and families can learn more about the programs, and ask questions surrounding day-to-day life, what to expect, application\/audition requirements, and more.
