TV directing: Getting and Keeping Your Foot in the Door<\/h3>\n

Acclaimed television director and CFA alum Michael Medico<\/strong> (CFA’94), whose credits include\u00a0<\/span>Grey\u2019s Anatomy<\/em>,\u00a0<\/span>The Fosters<\/em>,\u00a0<\/span>Atypical<\/em>, and Good<\/em> Trouble<\/em>, talked about breaking into television directing in a virtual BU alumni panel in October 2020.<\/p>\n

This discussion, moderated by actress and CFA alum Fay Wolf<\/strong> (CFA’00), explored Medico’s journey to television directing.<\/p>\n

Michael Medico likes to say he put himself through his own TV directing MFA program. It took 7 years from the time he shot his first short until fellow CFA Terrier Peter Paige<\/strong> (CFA’91) gave him his first TV job directing\u00a0<\/span>The Fosters<\/em>. Now, 3 years later, Michael is about to direct his 10th television series (CFA alumna Krista Vernoff<\/strong>\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>Station 19<\/em>) and has four other shows booked to direct in the next 6 months. He discussed where to begin, how to prepare for a meeting, shadowing, and how to keep getting asked back once you book the job.<\/p>\n
