Greetings from Boston!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

We\u2019re delighted to see the daffodils and robins that signal summer is not far away! Students are enrolling, faculty are making plans, concerts are being finalized, and we\u2019re very enthusiastic about the 2019 season.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

In this issue of Prelude\u00a0<\/i>you\u2019ll see a listing of new faculty who come from across the country to join us. We\u2019re especially pleased to be working with <\/span>Miguel Harth-Bedoya<\/span><\/a>\u2014joining us again as conductor of the Young Artists Orchestra after more than a decade. Welcome back, Maestro!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

I\u2019m thrilled to announce our 2019 Visiting Artists as well: composer and flutist <\/span>Valerie Coleman<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>(BUTI\u201989, CFA\u201995) and pianist and vocal coach <\/span>Douglas Sumi<\/span><\/a>\u00a0will be with us in July.\u00a0Both will teach and coach across the Young Artists Programs and be present for formal and informal Q&A sessions and career talks. <\/span>Nico Muhly\u00a0<\/span><\/a>(BUTI\u201996,\u201997) will also return as BUTI\u2019s 2019 Artist-in-Residence. These special guests are all looking forward to interacting and brainstorming with the next generation, using their broad and varied career experience to enrich perspectives and spark new ideas. And of course, the BUTI master class series will feature artists from the Boston Symphony Orchestra and around the globe to round out a summer of incredible learning opportunities. <\/o:p><\/span>\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

There are also some new things happening this summer.\u00a0With the launch of the new\u00a0Tanglewood Learning Institute<\/a>\u00a0(TLI), BUTI students will have more opportunities to perform and learn on Tanglewood grounds in the gorgeous new Linde Center for Music and Learning. TLI will also feature our Dean,<\/span>\u00a0Dr. <\/a><\/span>Harvey Young<\/span><\/a>, and Young Artists Wind Ensemble conductor H. Robert Reynolds<\/a>\u00a0in the ShopTalks<\/em> series on July 25. In addition to the web site, the Boston Musical Intelligencer provides another\u00a0sneak peak<\/a>\u00a0on what is in store for BUTI at TLI this summer.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Whether you\u2019re coming for the first time, returning to BUTI in any capacity, or simply watching what is happening through our social media this summer, we look forward to seeing you. Tanglewood is a very special place to be, and we thank you for being a part.<\/span><\/p>\n
