The first season at Boston University Booth Theatre continues with a BCAP production embracing the art of movement storytelling that responds to Herman Melville\u2019s <\/em>Moby-Dick.<\/em><\/p>\n

Joan & Edgar Booth Theatre<\/a> at Boston University continues its inaugural season with InMotion Theatre\u2019s The Journey<\/em>, presented by BU College of Fine Arts (CFA) School of Theatre<\/a> and Boston Center for American Performance<\/a> (BCAP).<\/p>\n

Conceived, co-created, and directed by Yo-EL Cassell<\/a>, The Journey<\/em> is an imaginative original InMotion Theatre production that follows the story of Captain Ahab\u2019s wife, a woman who passes through grief and obsession to find her inner truth. By fusing a variety of movement and physical acting approaches, the production will allow the audience to follow the adventurous and moving journey of one person\u2019s quest among communal support, that embraces empowerment, overcomes fear, and highlights the tenacity of the human spirit.<\/p>\n

InMotion Theatre is a new annual initiative which aims to highlight storytelling primarily through the approaches of movement and physical theatre. Its mission\u00a0<\/strong>is to produce original works and adaptations in theatrical experiences that highlight transformative, dynamic, thought-provoking, and imaginative storytelling\u2014allowing accessibility through the channels of physical expression.<\/p>\n

Inspired by a vast variety of sources and influences, including Herman Melville\u2019s Moby-Dick<\/em>, The Journey<\/em> is an original physical theatre production that focuses on what it means to embark on a journey to discover the self, confronting the metaphorical whale within our own being.<\/p>\n

\u201cBooth Theatre\u2019s playing space is literally a director\u2019s dream,\u201d says director Yo-EL Cassell, of staging a unique production in the innovative space. \u201cIt can transform its configuration to inform and inspire and support the intent and truism of the production. It was essential for the design team and I to embrace how the theatre itself is cinematically informed and transformed by the story of the physical play.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 250-seat Joan & Edgar Booth Theatre, designed by internationally-recognized Elkus | Manfredi Architects, is located at the heart of BU\u2019s Charles River campus. The facilities of the Booth Theatre and adjoining CFA Production Center create a 21st century learning environment to educate the next generation of artists and engage audiences in an immersive experience. The purposeful, flexible design of the Booth Theatre allows for the nearly boundless evolution of performances and a deep engagement with audiences.<\/p>\n
