Between the Bylines, <\/em><\/em>curated by Susan Bright<\/strong>, investigates one crucial issue \u2013 that of absence. It looks at who gets represented in the newspaper and how that representation takes shape. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It takes as its medium one that is disappearing, inviting the audience to contemplate issues of subjectivity, trust, and control in press coverage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fusing spoken text, voice and a wide variety of theatrical movement approaches with embodied images inspired by the the Smithsonian Institution’s acclaimed anthology, Seeing Jazz. Living Jazz<\/em> takes place in an abandoned Jazz Club where the spirits of the afterlife convene to re-activate physical stories and remembrances of how their former life moved them and how the elements of jazz\u2014rhythm, improvisation and call and response\u2013 exist within them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Li CunYi is a Chinese orphan who makes a promise to reunite with his sister who is adopted by an American family. As CunYi grows into adulthood in China, he becomes involved with the daughter of a powerful political family, who both aids and manipulates the search for his sister.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
