While at BU from 1964 to 1986, he primarily taught undergraduate foundation drawing, which remains an essential part of the curriculum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Accompanying <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mfa.org\/exhibition\/witnessing-humanity-the-art-of-john-wilson\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">its run at the MFA<\/a> were two projects by groups of CFA students. An exhibition at BU, <em>Foundation Drawing: The Legacy of John Wilson<\/em>, featured works by students in first-year drawing classes in response to <em>Witnessing Humanity<\/em>. The show also featured archival materials related to Wilson from BU\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/library\/gotlieb-center\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Howard Gotlieb Archival Research Center<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SVA visual narrative students produced <em>In Dialogue with Wilson: Comics Reflections on a Boston Visionary<\/em>, a comic book companion handed out at the exhibition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe very act of being an artist who makes work that celebrates the lives of Black and brown people, no matter the context, is a political act,\u201d says <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cfa\/about\/contact-directions\/directory\/joel-christian-gill\/\">Joel Christian Gill <\/a>(\u201904), associate professor and chair of MFA visual narrative. \u201cMaking this work and celebrating it, especially in the times that we are living in, is an important thing.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Wilson had a lasting impact on the Black communities of Roxbury and Mattapan, and generations of BU students.
