Guggenheim Museum, kicks off the symposium on Thursday, March 21 at 7pm. Dr. James most recently curated <em>Going Dark: The Contemporary Figure at the Edge of Visibility<\/em>, currently on view at the Guggenheim. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cArtist book fairs are increasingly popular events across the world, bringing together people to celebrate artistic expression, the form of the book as a vessel for cultural exchange, and so much more. As national and international fairs become more competitive, regional and local fairs offer opportunities for practitioners and students to exchange best practices and learn from one another,\u201d says Sleboda. \u201cEven as book fairs have thrived, however, the scholarly and critical environment around them and the genre of artist books continues to require support. Guggenheim Museum. She is the curator of <em>Going Dark: The Contemporary Figure at the Edge of Visibility<\/em> (2023-24) and <em>Off the Record<\/em> (2021); and co-curator of <em>The Hugo Boss Prize: Deana Lawson, Centropy<\/em> (2021). Prior to joining the Guggenheim, James served as Assistant Curator of Contemporary Art at the Brooklyn Museum, where she was the lead curator for the museum\u2019s presentation of <em>Soul of a Nation: Art in the Age of Black Power<\/em> (2018\u201319), organized <em>Eric N. Mack: Lemme walk across the room<\/em> (2019), and co-curated <em>John Edmonds: A Sidelong Glance<\/em> (2020-21). James holds a Ph.D. from Yale University in English literature and African American studies.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-editorial-drawer-close\"><button class=\"wp-block-editorial-drawer-close-button js-bu-block-drawer-close\">Close<\/button><\/div><\/div><\/section><\/aside>\n\n\n\n<p>Intended to be an elastic and inclusive forum for discussions about artist book publishing, Multiple Formats pays particular attention to publishing by graphic designers, the use and creation of artist books in visual arts programs, publishing as a personal and collaborative process, and other topics of interest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event serves to build community and strengthen creative networks, bringing together students, faculty, alums, artists, librarians, collectors, and scholars from Boston and beyond.
