The material inside the works expands outward and into the aesthetic and political concerns characterizing contemporary visual art production. A quilt reflects the collision of painting and technology. Portraits of people and charismatic objects emerge from padded surfaces. Wool gives shape to imaginative reflections on identity. A graffiti and design legend, Adams honed his art skills painting the streets and trains of NYC in the late 1970\u2019s before moving downtown where the street art was leaking into the city\u2019s high-end galleries. Like his pop art contemporaries of the time, Adams understood the power of images, media and advertising, a position that left him uniquely suited to give visual life to a new movement called Hip-Hop.<\/p><p><em><em>CEY ADAMS, DEPARTURE: 40 Years of Art and Design<\/em> <\/em>examines Adams\u2019 more than four decades of work which spans everything from graffiti to designing album covers, t-shirts and posters for some of Hip-Hop\u2019s foundational acts, and his expanding commercial collaborations with global brands. With a return to his roots more than a decade ago, Adams has explored his evolving art through fine art and mixed media collages that evoke nostalgia while looking deeper into an Americana that is effortlessly authentic.<\/p><p>The exhibition was on view at BU\u2019s Faye G., Jo, and James Stone Gallery in Fall 2022 from October 4-December 11, 2022, and is now traveling, on view at the James Stone Gallery \u2022 October 3 \u2013&nbsp;December 13, 2023<\/strong><em> <\/em><\/p><p><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/art\/an-adventure-in-the-arts\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>An Adventure in the Arts<\/em><\/a> is an exhibition of a selection of works from the permanent collection of Guild Hall, a cultural center on the eastern end of Long Island. This unique region of the world has attracted many diversely talented artists, writers, musicians, actors, and directors throughout the years. Since its inception in 1931, Guild Hall has developed an impressive permanent collection which now consists of over 1,900 works in all mediums, including paintings, prints, photography, and sculpture. This exhibition consists of 73 works by 63 artists.
