Visual Arts Summer Institute 2021: Apply Today!
CFA School of Visual Arts recently announced Boston University’s plans for a virtual Visual Arts Summer Institute (VASI) for Summer 2021, and applications are still open!
Virtual VASI will be a six-week program that will run from June 27 through August 6, 2021.
The core of this virtual experience will be a 5-days a week drawing intensive supported by unique workshops and talks all while working to foster a sense of virtual community.
We feel confident that this virtual VASI will be a valuable and effective way to stay engaged in studio practice over the summer, and continue (or perhaps start) building a college-ready portfolio. This year’s drawing intensive will explore questions like: What is drawing? Is drawing a way to test form? Is drawing a way to test concept? Is drawing a means to an end, or an end in and of itself? What is representation? What is abstraction? What is it that we see? What is it that we feel? How can we represent or translate what we see and feel?
Faculty and students will ask these questions together, and engage in an inquiry of them through making, discussion and critique, producing an extensive portfolio of drawing in dry, wet, print and mixed media. Our goal is to make marks, and to question how those marks behave in the context of all human mark making, examining how our marks relate to a broad range of world legacies, perspectives and experiences. You can learn more about virtual VASI Curriculum and schedule here.
If you are interested in participating in VASI, we encourage you to please fill out an application. Applications are open through May 31, 2021, and will be considered on a rolling basis.
We hope that you’ll consider applying to join us this summer!
