School of Theatre presents THE IDENTITY PROJECT

Boston University College of Fine Arts
School of Theatre presents

October 14-16
Friday, Oct 14, 7:30pm
Saturday, Oct 15, 2pm and 8pm
Sunday, Oct 16, 1pm and 7pm

Devised by the Company and directed by Jeffry Stanton | “We can spend our lives letting the world tell us who we are…Letting history tell us how good or bad we are. Letting our past decide our future. Or we can decide for ourselves. And maybe it’s our job to invent something better.” –Chuck Palahniuk | “We know what we are, but not what we may be.” –Bill Shakespeare| As theatre artists, we look deep within ourselves to sort out what shapes who we are and what we want to become. We figure out what we, uniquely, need to say about this mad, mad, mad world and how to most effectively harness theatre to pose the difficult questions, open channels for meaningful dialogue, and to parse the most gnarly issues of our time. The Identity Project (working title) will be an ensemble-devised work of theatre using the journey of “becoming” as its point of departure. We’ll collaboratively create an exciting, visceral new work about our identities at a crossroads—exploring the moments when life prevails to nudge us from who we are (or were) toward who we are to become. Looking for inspiration in our own stories and beyond, the Identity Project will attempt to say something both personal and universal about the pivotal, palpable moments in our lives in which we must redefine our future, write a brand new script and take a leap into the new and unknown.
