School of Music Student Achievements

Benjamin Low, CFA BM ‘17, was recently selected as a semi-finalist in The Choral Project’s 6th annual Choral Competition for his piece Oom Ji Ji. Low is a double major in voice performance and composition and a student of Professor Ketty Nez

Te Hu, CFA PD ‘17, was selected to attend the iSING! International Young Artists Festival this summer in Suzhou, China. The iSING! International Young Artists festival is one of the first festivals promoting the vocal arts in China and strives to introduce Mandarin as a lyric language. Hu is a contralto student of Professor Sharon Daniels.

The International Vocal Arts Institute (IVAI) recently selected mezzo/contralto student, Kylee Slee, CFA MM ‘16, to attend the program this summer in Montreal, Canada.  The IVAI has been training young singers for nearly two decades. Slee is currently a student of Professor Sharon Daniels.

Zhulinzi Wen, CFA DMA ‘18, was named as one of the first-prize winners in the American Protégé International Music Concerto Competition. Wen will perform Ginastera’s Danzas Argentinas at Weill Recital Hall in New York City on May 28, 2016. Wen is a student of Professor Gila Goldstein.

Erik Van Heyningen, CFA BM ’15, OI ’17, has received a great deal of recognition this year. He will be playing Truffaldino in Ariadne auf Naxos as a 2016 Opera Theater of St. Louis Richard Gaddes Festival Artist, and will be covering the roles of Colline in La boheme and the Doctor in Macbeth. He also received the Encouragement Awards at both the 2016 Gerda Lissner Foundation International Vocal Competition and the 2016 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, among other notable achievements. Van Heyningen is a student of Professor Jerrold Pope.
