Two acting students reading scripts in a black box theatre

Boston University School of Theatre presents the 2025 Sophomore Festival: The Seagull written by Anton Chekhov, adapted by Anya Reiss, and directed by Christine Hamel.

A successful actress visits her brother's isolated estate far from the city, throwing the frustrated residents unfulfilled ambitions into sharp relief. As her son attempts to impress with a self-penned play, putting much more than his pride at stake, others dream of fame, love and the ability to change their past. (bloomsbury.com)

The Sophomore Festival (Group B, Psychophysical Approach) offers students a curated and intentional casting experience that is faculty-led and tied to a class curriculum and pedagogy. It is intended to help students become familiar with the rehearsal process and the actor’s creative process/practice. Three plays would be chosen with performances occurring in Studio ONE with minimal production and design elements to introduce the students to a larger space at SOT and a repertory schedule.

Free tickets, general admission at the door.
