CFA Professor featured in all-women exhibition
Josephine Halvorson, Professor and Chair of graduate studies in Painting, is currently featured in Gray Matters, a multifaceted survey of 37 contemporary women artists who have explored the practice of grisaille—the French term for working in shades of gray. On view now at the Wexner Center for the Arts in Columbus, Ohio, the exhibition is the first in which the museum’s galleries are filled entirely with work by women artists. Featuring such luminaries as Roni Horn, Marlene Dumas, Julie Mehretu, Mickalene Thomas, Vija Celmins, and Halvorson, the exhibition challenges an all-too-simplistic notion of colorless “neutrality” as they reveal the variegated spectrum of black, white, gray, and everything in between. In uniting over 50 remarkable works across media, Gray Matters provides a clarifying, focused lens through which to see the world afresh.
Gray Matters is on view at the Wexner Center through July 30.
