BU Tanglewood Institute: From the Director’s Desk | Fall 2017
From Hilary Respass, BU Tanglewood Institute Executive Director
As we head into the busy holiday season, I reflect with gratitude on the successes of the previous year and look forward with anticipation toward summer 2018. We’re already receiving applications daily, and the BUTI office has been buzzing with excitement as we plan for what I know will be another incredible summer in the Berkshires.
BUTI continues to grow. Building on last summer’s successful introduction of the Electroacoustic Composition Workshop and Junior Strings Intensive (ages 10–13), we’re pleased to offer these programs again alongside our newer offerings—Visiting Artists Series, Health & Wellness Series, and Electives—that are quickly becoming staples of our programming. And of course, all of BUTI’s proven instrumental, vocal, and composition programs will continue to attract the best and brightest.
Alongside the Boston Symphony Orchestra, we’re proud to celebrate Leonard Bernstein’s centennial at Tanglewood, a place where the conductor-composer was a vibrant annual presence. In addition to an all-Bernstein and Copland concert with BUTI’s Young Artists Wind Ensemble, we’ll be imbedding several performance and educational experiences across multiple programs this summer—stay tuned for all the details. And in the meantime, read about this summer’s Ozawa Hall Series.
But as we continue this important work of mentoring young artists from across the country and around the world, we also look to you. Thanks to generous donors, more than 150 students received scholarships last summer. Our goal is to provide financial aid to all of those who need it, and as many merit awards to others as possible. We rely on the generosity of donors to support not only vital scholarships, but also the exceptional faculty and programming that makes BUTI a stand out in the field. Please consider donating to BUTI on #GivingTuesday, coming up on November 28.
Whether you’re a prospective student, an alum, a parent, donor, or simply want to join us for a concert, we couldn’t be more thrilled that you’re taking part. This is just a snapshot of all the exciting things to come, and we look forward to bringing you more news and updates as we head toward the summer.
Best wishes for a happy holiday season!
With warmest regards,
Hilary Field Respass, Executive Director
