Faculty Recital: Ketty Nez, composer/pianist, and Katie Wolfe, violinist, faculty at University of Iowa

  • Starts: 8:00 pm on Monday, September 17, 2018

Program to include Béla Bartok’s Violin Sonata in E minor, an early work not often performed, written in 1903, before Bartók discovery and life-long research of folk music. Ketty’s double images carries on this musical conversation, and uses Romanian flute and violin tunes recorded and transcribed by Bartók in the 1910’s. Prokofiev’s 5 Melodies are a resetting by the composer of his own songs, which actually proved too difficult to sing. Grażyna Bacewicz was one of only two prominent Polish woman composers, an accomplished violinist, and pianist (as all the other composers on this program), who wrote this piece after a car accident had ended her performing career.

This event is free and open to the public.
