Musical Marathon

  • Starts: 12:00 pm on Wednesday, May 1, 2013
  • Ends: 5:00 pm on Wednesday, May 1, 2013
The Musical Marathon, which will take place on Wednesday, May 1, at the atrium of the George Sherman Union building, is an event of support for the victims of the terrorist attack at the Boston Marathon. The event will be open to the public and free. Professors of music, performance students from Boston University, New England Conservatory, Boston Conservatory, Harvard, Longy etc. and other musicians from the Boston area will be playing and singing one after the other for 5 hours, from 12pm to 5pm. The BU School of Music provides the event with a Yamaha G2 Grand piano. One of the main goals of this marathon is raising money to support the victims. This will be done by collecting donations (cash and checks are welcome) for One Fund Boston during the event. More generally, the Musical Marathon is a declaration of intent to continue distributing culture in spite of hatred and violence. Education is the best weapon we - musicians and academicians - could choose to fight terror and to enlighten dark minds. The choice of the place is not random: the George Sherman Union building attracts an enormous amount of students daily, and we hope that the heavy students' traffic will serve as a thankful audience for the performers and a generous donor for One Fund Boston, which will receive all profits from this event. The official page of the event is still under construction. For more information please contact: Anna Arazi, (617)460 9989, arazi@bu.edu
