Pre-MMH

This program is designed to prepare students for success in the Master’s in Hospitality Management (MMH) program at Boston University’s School of Hospitality (SHA) and beyond in their careers. A collaboration between CELOP and SHA, the program meets the needs of students who want to practice and improve academic and English language skills needed for success in completing graduate level work in the MMH program in the Fall.

  • Want to deepen their understanding of business and the hospitality industries

The program will provide students with exposure to coursework encountered in the MMH program and first-hand training in communication skills for hospitality and tourism. Students will gain familiarity with key concepts for successful graduate level study such as active learning, preparation of case studies, participation in discussions and giving effective presentations. Additionally, the program will hone academic reading and writing skills providing strategies for effectively dealing with graduate level reading and increasing audience awareness for effective communication using a variety of media. Industry visits and guest lectures from industry professionals will provide immediate opportunities to apply language and networking skills. By the end of the program, successful students will be well prepared to make the most of their MMH studies and future career in the Hospitality Industry.

Curriculum

This program combines lectures by hospitality faculty and professionals and extensive practice of the skills required for success in hospitality/tourism focused graduate work:

  • Hospitality Study: Engage with SHA faculty and guest lecturers from industry. Receive an early introduction to the hospitality industry in Boston with access to industry professionals and networking opportunities.
  • Language Focus: Practice the academic skills essential to effective use of written and spoken English for hospitality and graduate work.
