Akhila worked in the Chen Lab controlling mass transport in organ-on-a-chip devices. She created a profusion system to feed media or nutrients to the cells in the device over a longer period of time.<\/p>\n
Akhila is from Los Angeles, California and was a <\/span>sophomore<\/span> at Santa Monica College majoring in mechanical engineering when she joined the REU program.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Controlling Mass Transport in Organ-on-a-chip Devices:<\/b> Over the summer, Akhila worked in Dr. Christopher Chen\u2019s Tissue Microfabrication Lab alongside Madison Nieves<\/a> (REU). Akhila was mentored by Terry Ching, together they worked on engineering vascular beds that connect to ex vivo tissue.
