To build a successful mentoring environment and experience, we use a robust approach with three key components which are outlined below. Through this approach, we strive to create a high-quality mentoring experience for all trainees, faculty, and staff.<\/p>\n

Understanding Mentoring: STEM-ME Framework<\/h2>

\nSTEM-ME framework enables us to better situate, understand, and push on the mentoring systems that are needed to bring about change.\u00a0 We assess CELL-MET in terms of: who are assets, stakeholders, and stewards in mentoring ecosystems and identify potential gaps and opportunities.<\/p>\n

Mentoring Context: Communities of Practice<\/h2>

\nCommunities of practice helps us think about the setting and context in which mentoring takes place.<\/p>\n

Definition: A group of people who share a common concern, a set of problems, or an interest in a topic and who come together to fulfill both individual and group goals.<\/p>\n

Communities of practice often focus on sharing best practices and creating new knowledge to advance a domain of professional practice. Interaction on an ongoing basis is an important part of this (Lave & Wenger, 1991).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
