{"id":1068,"date":"2021-07-12T09:55:07","date_gmt":"2021-07-12T13:55:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/ceid\/?post_type=profile&#038;p=1068"},"modified":"2025-11-06T11:21:55","modified_gmt":"2025-11-06T16:21:55","slug":"patricia-hibberd-md-phd","status":"publish","type":"profile","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/ceid\/about-the-center\/team\/patricia-hibberd-md-phd\/","title":{"rendered":"Patricia Hibberd, MD, PhD"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span>Dr. Hibberd is a practicing infectious disease\u00a0<\/span><span>physician at Boston Medical Center.\u00a0 She\u00a0<\/span><span>leads a\u00a0<\/span><span>public health,\u00a0<\/span><span>clinical and translational research program focusing on the prevention and treatment of childhood pneumonia, neonatal sepsis, and diarrhea\u2014the leading killers of children under age 5 worldwide\u00a0<\/span><span>and infections across the lifespan \u2013 from pregnancy to elderly)\u00a0<\/span><span>\u00a0She has worked in India for\u00a0<\/span><span>more than 25 years<\/span><span>, and in\u00a0<\/span><span>Malawi, the Gambia and Liberia in Africa on emerging infectious diseases<\/span><span>. Her research in India\u00a0<\/span><span>has been continuously\u00a0<\/span><span>funded by NIH\/NICHD\u2019s Global Network for Women\u2019s and Children\u2019s Health Research since 2008. She is supported by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in Malawi and by Saving Lives at Birth in Pakistan for the development of novel point of care diagnostics for pneumonia in young children. Dr. Hibberd is also a Paul G. Rogers Society Ambassador for Global Health Research\u00a0<\/span><span>and was previously\u00a0<\/span><span>chair of the Data and Safety Monitoring Board for the CDC\u2019s STRIVE Trial, testing one of the vaccines (rVSV-ZEBOV) to prevent Ebola in Sierra Leone.
