After postdoctoral training in the Department of Genetics at Harvard Medical School, he joined Boston University as faculty in 2005. Dr. Segrè is currently a Professor of Biology, with secondary appointments in Biomedical Engineering and Physics. He is a core faculty member of the CDS Bioinformatics Program and of the Biological Design Center, and the founding Director of the Boston University Microbiome Initiative. Dr. Segrè has been pursuing a quantitative understanding of the principles that govern the emergence, evolution and dynamics of biological systems, including the origin of life and the allocation of resources in the cell. Current research in the Segrè laboratory is largely focused on the role of metabolism in natural and artificially designed microbial communities, with applications in biomedicine, metabolic engineering and environmental sustainability.

[705,260
