CDS Student Joshua Kim Named Innovate@BU’s First-Year Innovation Fellow
Joshua Kim, a first-year Data Science student at CDS, has been named one of Innovate@BU's 2023-24 First-Year Innovation Fellows [FYIF]. The Fellowship program is designed to support and uplift first-year students who want to turn their ideas into action for real-world impact.
“[FYIF] offers a platform to not only foster my entrepreneurial mindset but also to connect with a community of fellow first-year students who share a common zeal,” said Kim. “Working alongside other enthusiastic first-year students, all with unique ideas, in a diverse pool of minds coming together to brainstorm, will be inspiring.”
According to Austin Boyer, Marketing & Communications Manager at Innovate@BU, the fellows have been focused on community building, ideation, and getting connected to various BU resources. They have been working on secondary research, completed a business model plan, and have been conducting interviews with potential customers to learn more about the problem at hand.
“At Innovate@BU, we hold the belief that every BU Terrier has the potential to be an innovator in their communities and lives, and the First-Year Innovation Fellowship serves as a crucial steppingstone to kickstart their innovation journey,” says Boyer.
For the spring 2024 semester, fellows will focus on idea development, connecting with Boston-area resources, and presenting their ideas to the BU community. The project will also include market research, prototyping and developing a business pitch.
“We are so thrilled to have Joshua representing the CDS community among the fellows,” says Micah Sieber, Director of Academic Programs with Computing at Data Sciences. “This is an exciting opportunity, and we can’t wait to see what he achieves during his time with Innovate@BU.”
