We hide objects from babies, either behind screens or in boxes or buckets. We look at how babies explore the hidden objects. So far, we&#8217;ve found that babies remember objects&#8217; categories (like &#8220;person&#8221; versus &#8220;thing&#8221;) better than they remember what the objects look like. We&#8217;re exploring whether children categorize others&#8217; mental states, how children distinguish between the mind and the body, and children&#8217;s\u00a0understanding of pretense in others.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/cdl\/files\/2015\/07\/Amy_MentalStates.png\" alt=\"Amy_MentalStates\" width=\"175\" height=\"163\" class=\" wp-image-3840 aligncenter\" \/><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Can children use their gut-level number sense to solve algebra-like problems?<\/em><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">This study takes place in the Living Laboratory at the Museum of Science.
