{"id":3102,"date":"2014-07-28T15:28:36","date_gmt":"2014-07-28T19:28:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cdl\/?page_id=3102"},"modified":"2023-09-29T11:51:45","modified_gmt":"2023-09-29T15:51:45","slug":"research","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cdl\/developing-minds-lab\/research\/","title":{"rendered":"Our Research"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Current research questions<\/h2>\n<p>From the very first time they open their eyes, infants are faced with a tough problem. \u00a0They have to take the vast amount of visual information available in the world and carve it up into the meaningful units that are most relevant to us as humans: namely, inanimate\u00a0<strong>objects<\/strong>\u00a0and animate\u00a0<strong>agents<\/strong>. \u00a0In the Developing Minds Lab, we are interested in how infants and children perceive, understand, and remember objects and agents.<\/p>\n<p>We use a developmental approach, studying children ages 3 months and up, to answer the following questions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What do we remember about objects when they are out of view?<\/li>\n<li>How many objects can we remember? \u00a0What are the limits?<\/li>\n<li>How do infants and children overcome these limits? \u00a0Do they &#8220;chunk&#8221; like adults do?<\/li>\n<li>Does what we remember about objects change when we see other people interacting with those objects?<\/li>\n<li>How do we differentiate objects and people?<\/li>\n<li>How do we know what other people are thinking?<\/li>\n<li>How do our early representations of objects support learning of more advanced concepts later on, such as mathematics and physics?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Want\u00a0to see some of our lab&#8217;s most recent research?
