Character Coalition

The Character Coalition participates in various opportunities throughout Boston University and into the city of Boston as well. The club raises awareness and emphasize the importance of developing moral beings with virtues such as respect, integrity, and empathy. Our club is unique in that it combines professional development with community service to promote peace and character building to students in the club, at BU, in the Boston community, and throughout world.

Character Coalition was based on the ideology that teachers should use the classroom as a place for moral/ethical developmentĀ in addition to academic growth. This idea should be developed outside of the classroom as well. Members of our club come from all different majors and colleges within the university.

Formerly the Character and Ethics Club at BU, previous projects of Care Co include a fundraiser called “Pennies for Peace” to raise money for the Central Asia Institute, volunteering with “Peace First” in classrooms in Boston to promote peacemaking in at-risk urban schools, walking in the “Out of the Darkness” walk for suicide prevention and a “Character Approved” campaign to celebrate the individual characteristics of students at BU.

Current projects of the Character Coalition include leading Girl Scouts troops in the area and hosting a “Great Peace Challenge” Pay-It-Forward Scavenger Hunt, forming “Peace-Making Pen Pals” with elementary school children, along with many more opportunities to come.
